Whether you are just getting into reading, or have been reading for a while, I believe that it is important to have products that enhance your reading experience. Not only does it make it fun, but it also improves the quality of reading (at least in my opinion). I'm going to share all of my favorite products that I try to ALWAYS have with me when I'm reading.

The first thing you should have with you when you're reading is some type of water bottle. If you're anything like me, you will get so into your book that you look up and realize you've been reading for 3 hours. The last thing you want to do when you're enjoying a book is to get up and get a drink. That's why I always have my water bottle with me (and I do mean always because I am emotionally attached). A water bottle allows you to stay in your reading zone but also stay hydrated. Plus, it won't spill because it has a lid, so you can have it on the couch or in your bed with you. Also, you don't HAVE to put water in it, you can put any beverage of your choosing. A few of my favorite water bottles are the Simple Modern Trek Tumbler, Stanley FlowState Tumbler, and the Owala Free Sip water bottle. Now, I know there's a debate about which one of these is the best, and I like them all for different reasons. However, if I had to choose ONE specifically for when I'm reading, I would pick the Owala Free Sip because it has a lid, and I can have it on my bed with no worries. Do with that information what you will.
The next essential for reading are bookmarks. Unless you're reading on a Kindle, I think bookmarks are important. But there's no shame in dogearing your page or shoving in a random item to act as a bookmark. I just personally can't stand that and plus, bookmarks are so cute. Some of my favorite bookmarks are the magnetic ones because if your book falls, they WON'T FALL OUT OF YOUR BOOK. This might seem like a little thing, but nothing is more annoying then your bookmark falling out and you having to try to find your page again. But with the magnetic ones they stay in, and they look cute poking out of your book. They're small and easy to carry around too, plus they're pretty cheap on Amazon. If you want something a little more extra and fancier, then a corner bookmark is perfect. It sits on the top right corner of your page and is ADORABLE. I really like this embroidered one with your initial from Amazon. Also, this would make the perfect gift for a book lover!
Now, depending on the season, you might not ALWAYS need a comfy blanket. But I am always cold, and I just love using a blanket, even in the middle of summer so it's an essential for me. I love cozying up on the couch with my comfy blanket and my book. You either get it or you don't but if you do then my two favorite blankets are shown below. The checkered one is my favorite because the material is so soft and warm, but not too warm, if that makes sense. It comes in a bunch of cute colors too. But if that's not your vibe then I also love just a plain, soft blanket and if you have pets, you won't get too upset if this one gets dirty.
I don't know why it took me so long to realize that book lights exist, but I am so glad that I did. This is one of those products that you don't realize you need, but once you get it, it changes your life. Kindle girlies have never felt the pain of leaving lights on at night just so you can see your book. Or the pain of not being able to read your book because you're sharing a room with someone and don't want to disturb them by leaving the light on just so you can read. Well, low and behold, there is a product that solves this problem. These little book lights just clip straight onto your book and allow you to read in the dark! They are the perfect brightness for seeing your book, not too bright where it starts to be annoying. Some of them even have different settings to control the warmth of the light. They're small and easy to travel with as well.
Now these next items are only necessary if you like to annotate or highlight in your books. I used to hate annotating my books because I put so much pressure on myself to annotate that I wasn't actually enjoying reading the book. But now I've learned to only annotate when I really want to, and usually I annotate when I re-read a book because I know it was a great book. Now that I've finally started to enjoy annotating, I enjoy buying supplies that help make it easier, and of course, pretty. For starters, I love highlighting in my books because my eyes immediately go to the highlighted quote the next time I'm flipping through the book. I picked these highlighters because #1, they're pretty, pastel colors and #2, they don't bleed through! Trust me, you need highlighters that don't bleed through if you're going to be annotating your books. The next essential for annotating are book tabs. Book tabs allow you to easily access an annotated page because they stick slightly out on the side. When you choose cute colors the side of your book is aesthetically pleasing to say the least. Some people use a key and color code their tabs with the type of things they annotate, which helps make it easier when you're going back through your book trying to find a specific quote or paragraph. Again, these aren't necessary, but they make annotating easier for me, and I enjoy the process. And of course, you need something to put all of your annotation supplies in! A pencil case is perfect because it can hold all your highlighters, pens, pencils, book tabs, and even bookmarks and other products. It makes it easier when you go to a coffee shop, bookstore, park, etc. to read because you can just throw your pencil case in your bag, and you won't lose anything. I like the one below because it has a ton of space and dividers to keep everything nice and organized.
Okay, obviously you don't have to buy anything in order to enjoy a book, but I found that these items help enhance my experience and just make me happy. I hope I helped someone out there by encouraging them to get one of these items for themselves or as a gift to a reader they know. Let me know what your reading essentials are and if you want me to make a part 2!
