Summer Reading Wrap Up

As summer comes to an end, it's only natural to take a moment and reflect on the ambitious reading list we set out to conquer. Personally, I opted for a modest summer TBR, fully aware that work commitments and travel plans would shape my sunny months. To my pleasant surprise, not only did I manage to delve into a significant portion of my intended reads, but I also ventured beyond the boundaries of my initial list. In the spirit of sharing my literary journey, I'm excited to present a roundup of seven captivating books that have accompanied me throughout this vibrant season, each one leaving its unique imprint on my summer adventures.

The Spanish Love Deception

The first book I tackled from my summer tbr was "The Spanish Love Deception" by Elena Armas. If I'm being honest, this book failed to leave a lasting impression. While the book's concept intrigued me, I struggled to find something likeable about the female lead character. Plus, it was entirely wayyyyyy too long. I mean no romance book needs to be 482 pages long. It wasn't the worst book I've ever read, but if I were you, I would skip this one.

Heart Bones

Unfortunately, this is one of the books on my tbr that I did not get around to reading. I don't know why I keep putting this book off since I've heard a lot of good things about it. I'm not exactly sure what it's about, but I know at least part of the book takes place in summer which is why it was on my tbr in the first place. I will say that I'm glad that I have the old cover of this book because the new cover is not as cute to me. Someone please convince me to read this in the comments!

The Summer of Broken Rules

This is another book that I have not read yet and I will most likely be saving it to read next summer. I have seen a lot of praise for this book as well and I

think this is the book that has Taylor Swift references? I could be wrong on that but regardless I am determined to read it next summer, mark my words!

Book Lovers

Okay, this is the last one on my summer tbr that I did not read, I promise. Truthfully, I haven't read this one yet because I have heard mixed reviews. Some people love it and some people do not. I love Emily Henry's writing and I've never given one of her books below a 4-star rating, so I'm sure I will be in the group of people that love this book. However, I wanted to read her other books more this summer so I did not get around to this one, but I have a feeling that I will by the end of this year!

Beach Read

I loved loved loved this book! This is my favorite Emily Henry book so far and if you have not read it yet, you need to. The title is a little misleading, because I assumed the setting would be a beach and it's actually a lake. However, it was perfect for me because I read it while I was at a lake. It's always nice when you read a book that takes place in the same setting you're in. I love how both characters are writers and the plot of this book was so entertaining. I gave this book 5 stars and will recommend it to anyone who will listen. If you want a new book boyfriend, then Gus is perfect, and you need to read this book!

Hook, Line, and Sinker

Me and Tessa Bailey do not have a good track record. I read "It Happened One Summer" right before summer and I did not like it. Which I think is a pretty unpopular opinion because this book was all over TikTok. I just disliked all of the characters and I never found Brendan charming. I did not believe that the characters were in lov,e and it was just a miss for me. So, with that said, I had very low hopes for "Hook, Line, and Sinker". To my pleasant surprise, I actually LOVED this book! The only reason I even read this book in the first place was because I saw little snippets of a potential love between these characters in the first book. I am so glad I gave this book a try because it was so cute! I loved Hannah and Fox and the character development in this book was chef's kiss. I ate this book up and honestly, you could just skip "It Happened One Summer" and go straight to "Hook, Line, and Sinker" and save yourself a lot of time.

Every Summer After

I have mixed feelings on this one. First of all, I read it because I saw everyone saying it is similar to "Love and other words" by Christina Lauren. Which, it definitely is. And just like with Love and other words, I was loving this book until the end. I don't want to spoil anything, but some things happen in this book that are not justified to me. It was entertaining and if you really liked "love and other words" then I think you will like this. Just don't expect it to be the best love story ever.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Trilogy

I'm just going to group these three books together into one review. I really enjoyed this series, and I flew through it! It was cute, sweet, entertaining, and had good vibes overall. My favorite book was the first one because it just set everything up so perfectly and it had me laughing and crying. In the books, the love triangle was barely even a love triangle in my opinion because I knew who she was going to end up with from the very beginning. However, I still enjoyed these books and the show on Netflix is also really good! I have not started the second season yet, but the first season is everything I wanted and more. I definitely recommend this series and the show! (Also, I'm 100% team Conrad)

I feel like 7/10 for a tbr is pretty good! I have certainly done worse in the past, but I also know I can do better lol. Let me know if you want me to share my August tbr!! I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions on any of these books and how well you stuck to your summer tbr in the comments!!
